TheFreeDictionary.com defines flirting as: to make playfully romantic or sexual overtures. I couldn’t do anything but laugh when I read this definition because I always assumed my husband and I flirted but this was the confirmation I needed.
Oh I love flirting with my husband. To me, it keeps us young (in mind & spirit) and wanting each other. Do you and your spouse flirt with each other?
14 Day Marriage Challenge: Flirting
Why Flirting is important
Think back to when you first meet your spouse. There was a little flirting going on then.
Think back to when you started dating your spouse. You guys flirted during courtship.
Think back to the day of your wedding. I’m sure there was some flirting going on then as well.
Think back to yesterday, did you flirt with your spouse?
I know when Stephon and I was dating the flirting was hot and heavy. That manner continued after the wedding but it did simmer down some when we got a few years under our belt in marriage, the kids became teenagers, jobs became more demanding, and we were just plain TIRED.
However, over the last few years, it seems that our flirting has increased. Flirting to us mean several things, just as it does for most. We flirt to be playful. We flirt let the other one know we thinking about them and last but certainly not least, we flirt to initiate sex.
Flirting with your spouse should not end once you say I Do. Flirting allows you to keep the flames burning, remove boredom from the interaction you have with your spouse, and to signal to your spouse that they are wanted & loved.
Flirt with each other like you did before you were married. Get creative and think outside the box now when it comes to flirting with your spouse. Remember, flirting does not automatically mean sex. Flirting is another means of communicating and bonding with our spouse.
The purpose of the challenge is to increase [restart] flirting with your spouse.
Ways to Flirt with Your Spouse
5 ways to Flirt with your spouse:
Touch your spouse in a flirtatious way when they least expect. Rub their hand while you are watching TV together, pat them on the butt when they walk pass you, massage their hands, or [my favorite] walk up to your spouse and bite their lips playfully.
2. Use modern technology
Text your spouse a line from their favorite song, a quote from their favorite movie, a naughty thought, and/or even a picture of you.
3. Pet Names
Begin to call your spouse the pet name you once called them when you were dating. Now this one for me is my ultimate favorite. I don’t think I call my husband by his given name unless I am being overly serious. He really enjoys hearing me call him by the special name I gave him.
4. Become an Audio Producer
Record a sexy message for your spouse telling them how beautiful/handsome they are to you. Make sure you add what their sexiness does to you. You can leave them a voice message on their phone, work phone, or even send a voice message via email.
5. Greeting
Greet your spouse with hugs, kisses and a negligée (or sexy boxers). Greeting your spouse doesn’t have to happen when they first get home. I do understand that you just wouldn’t be able to have on your sexy grown folks clothes all in the middle of the day when the kids are woke, but you can definitely greet your spouse anytime of the day.
Greeting your spouse, in this instance, means making them feel special!
Today’s Challenge:
I challenge you to initiate one or two of the above suggestions or come up with your own way of flirting with your spouse. Begin flirting with your spouse today. Make this a natural occurrence every day. Really focus on having fun, making your spouse smile, and making your spouse feel wanted.
