Escape Rooms are popping up everywhere. We decided to give it a try for date night. I found a great deal on Groupon for Escape Room TN. We had no preconceived ideas except what we have seen on TV on the show EXIT seen on Syfy. We were really excited to try to escape The Japanese Thriller Room at Escape Room TN. We also knew this would be a great bonding time for us.
All the way there, the hubby and I were speculating what the night would be like. Neither of us like scary stuff and the room I choose was the Japanese Thriller room. It was well-organized, fun and challenging. Before we even entered the room, they sit you in a nice room to watch a video to give you the back story on the room you are trying to escape. As not to spoil anything, just know the hubby and I eyes got really big watching the video. We didn’t know what we had gotten ourselves into.
When we arrived, we were greeted promptly by the owner. I spoke to her on the phone prior to us arriving and she was cheerful on the phone and in person. We reserved our room for the last escape of the night. So we were the only couple in our room. PERFECT! Well it was perfect in the sense that we were able to do the game by ourselves and work on our communication skills but it wasn’t perfect in the sense that we needed help to escape the rooms.
The Japanese room we were trying to escape had 3 rooms. One unlocked and two locked rooms. The three rooms were uniquely designed and the storyline was well thought out. You are required to enter each room and look for clues and solve the puzzle to “escape.” If you get stuck, you can request some hints. A word of caution about asking for hints: you only have 3 chances to get help so make sure you don’t use your “lifelines” too early.
The whole experience is only 60 minutes. The time went by way faster that we expected and we were down to the final minute before I knew it.
Since this was our first time, we took too long in rooms that we should have got in and out quicker but in our defense, it was just the two of us. We didn’t escape but the memories created is long lasting.
Escape rooms are created for groups of at least 8 people. It allows the group to divide and conquer the rooms to be able to escape. However, for us, we enjoyed being able to roam around the escape room together and work on escaping as a couple.
I highly recommend Escape room for a date night escape. The fun and bonding are priceless.
