Oh my, it’s getting harder & harder to find unique & fresh things to do for date night. Ohhhhhhh but there are so many things to do that you must think outside the box.
This past week, we knew we didn’t want to just do the same ole dinner & a movie. We knew we didn’t want to Netflix and chill.
So what…..what should we do?
I received an email from the local theater about an outdoor play they were hosting at our local HBCU.
Outdoor play?
Say what?
Hot damn (no pun intended), I’ve found our date night activity.
We packed up our lawn chairs, our cooler & some food & headed to Lemoyne-Owen College to enjoy a summer evening of free entertainment that included a full production of the hip-hop musical FLOW.
FLOW, a humorous, delightful and dark, hip-hop urban fairy tale, follows the lives of seven storytellers from the Black community: the Preacha Man, Swea P., Ole Cheesy, etc… Through hip-hop rhythms and dance the characters reflect upon the unconventional use of oral history in Black neighborhoods, its passing through gentrification and blight, and its rebirth by way of a new generation of storytellers who use social media to keep the ‘flow’ going.
When I tell y’all we had an awesome time, that’s an understatement.
I would have never thought about attending a play outside especially in the summer. But it was a different version of going to the drive in without sitting in your car.
Look up your local theater and plan a date night to see a play performed by local actors.
Oh & the outfit I was wearing was designed by ME!
One piece maxi dress in linen. This was the perfect outfit for an outdoor date night!
When was the last time you and your spouse attended a play?
