Many of you know my hubby is a truck driver and I accompany him on the road at times. You guys also know, we try to exercise and eat right. I did say TRY! But being a truck driver & the wife who rides with her trucker husband, staying fit on the road is a lot harder than you think.
Look, I will admit I love eating my sweets, slices of bread & potato chips. My husband sits behind a steering wheel 11-12 hours every day. His profession doesn’t offer us the ease of exercising but to stay healthy and live longer, we recognize the need to stay active & eat right.
But…
Trucking is a job that is sedentary with limited breaks at truck stops.
Let me tell you if you are seeking quick grab food loaded with calories, sugar, and stuff to help spread your waistline then the food at truck stops are the way to go.
Hey, I’m all for a candy bar here and there but when the hubby and I will be in the truck days on in, we cannot fill our bodies with that junk (pun intended).
What we have incorporated into our trucking schedule is regular exercise + healthy eating.
We have a modified gym equipment with us in the truck. We have a yoga mat, hand weights and push up equipment. Plus we utilize several workout apps to help with accountability, exercise suggestions and monitoring our heart rate.
We alter between a full workout and walking.
Since most of our deliveries are to warehouses, we will walk around the building 4 times or if we are at a truck stop, we will walk 2-4 miles on the street.
Really, there is no excuse for anyone, especially truck drivers, not to exercise and take care of their health.
If I can do it, anyone can.
It’s not easy but you must be intentional.
Lack of exercise and bad eating habits can contribute to obesity, diabetes, hypertension and heart disease.
[pullquote]I love me too much not to exercise and in support of my husband, we exercise together.[/pullquote]
Simple exercises that truckers or anyone can do:
1. Walking
2. Stair climbing
3. Tricep dips (can be done inside the truck as well)
4. Lunges
5. Jumping jacks
6. Squats (can be done in the truck as well)
7. Hand stretches
8. Planks
Some exercises can be modified to fit your fitness level, the weather and if you must do them inside your truck.
No excuses for not working out! Hey, if my husband and I can, you can find time daily to exercise!
Fitness Apps we use:
-7 Minute Workout “Seven” with High-Intensity Interval Training Challenge by Perigee
–Cardiio, a really cool app that turns your phone into an accurate heart rate monitor.

Being a trucking family, we have to be creative in how we maintain our health. It’s not easy but it’s a necessity.
Plus exercising with my hubby is quality time for us. Then we take a shower together! Hmm, nothing like getting sweaty with your boo & then helping to wash the sweat off them! Judge me if you want, it works for me.
How do you include exercise in your marriage and when you guys are traveling?
