I’ve often wondered if couples and/or families still eat dinner together at the dinner table? I know the way our lives are set up, it’s hard for us to even eat dinner at the same time. The husband is a truck driver so his hours are crazy. I know many couples and families that have gotten away from enjoying dinner as a unit. Is it really beneficial to eat dinner together as a family?
Recently, we went on a tour of the Jack Daniel’s distillery and after the tour, we enjoyed a delicious meal at Miss Bobo’s. Not knowing what to expect, we were presently surprised, and apprehensive, to find out the meals are served family style. At Miss Bobo’s, you are sat at a dinner table with 7 other people + a “meal hostess.” They attempt to bring back conversations and togetherness to those sitting around the table, even if just for one meal.
Hmmmm…..
I was very skeptical on how this would work. Do I really want to talk to strangers during my meal? Would the strangers know how to eat? Meaning, will they talk with their mouths open? Will the smack? I had reservations about this, for sure.
Once we were brought to our dining room, it was apparent that this was a true southern environment & the staff at Miss Bobo’s understand how to engage EVERYONE!
The food was brought to the table. Sweet tea was poured. Off to a great start!
Once our hostess explained everything to us and we started eating, the conversations started and everyone was enjoying the meal and the company.
WAIT?
I’m at the table, truly enjoying the fried chicken, and all of a sudden I’m like “shit, we need to do this at home!”
I’m looking around the table and no one is looking at their phones. No TV is on. No one has their face buried in a computer screen.
EVERYONE is attentive, talking, laughing and listening to each other.
THIS COULD BE A GAME CHANGER IN MARRIAGES!
As simple as enjoying a meal at the dinner table, could and will cause a couple to actual TALK to each other without interruption.
Look, at Miss Bobo’s, each dining room has a hostess that is responsible for making sure everyone is enjoying the meal but also keep the conversation going. Once she “broke the ice,” she pretty much didn’t have to poke and prod anyone to talk.
Hmmm…..
What would happen if you planned a dinner for you and your spouse (& kids, if applicable) and started the first conversation?
The topics were light-hearted. No one talked about the bills, health issues, or anything draining of the spirit. We shared happy and funny stuff. You know those topics that allow you to truly “escape” reality & just enjoy the moment with your spouse & family. Yea, those topics.
See…..
Sadly, many of us rarely eat together anymore. We are so “busy” that we are grabbing food on the go. Or, we are eating not by candlelight but by computer light.
We truly are missing out on the perfect time to bond and create a family tradition with our loved ones.
Miss Bobo does not only have the perfect combination of food they are serving but they understand the power of family dinners.
A family that eats together stays together.
A few benefits to incorporating family dinners into your “busy” lifestyle:
When you’re eating together, you’re actually talking and connecting
You aren’t watching TV, on your phone, instead, you are 100% present for the meal and your spouse.
You create a routine, tradition, regular date night
You know that one this day at this time, you and your spouse will be together. You begin to look forward to the mealtime at home.
You get to RELAX
After a long day, you can relax with your spouse without the pressures of the world needing something from you. You know during dinner time it’s only about you & your spouse.
If you can’t have dinner at home, plan a dinner date at Miss Bobo’s in Lynchburg, TN. I promise you and your spouse would enjoy the time there.
