This week most of us are thinking about our mother or the women in our life that are mother figures. Honestly, none of us would be here if it wasn’t for our mother.
I’m so grateful that I’m still able to talk about my mom in the present tense. She is definitely the matriarch of our family.

In true transparency, as a kid I didn’t see her as the matriarch instead I thought she was a hard (but loving) woman. Don’t get me wrong, she feed us, clothe us and even took us places but she was very strict about who we spent time with and the things we wanted to do as in “fun.” She was very protective of us. Some would even say smothering.
As a kid, I thought I was being deprived but in reality she was shielding us from the bad elements. And mom for that I thank you.
As I got older and was able to understand my mom from a moms point of view, I appreciated her even more.
My mom is very strong willed. So one thing I learned from her is to always be prepared. Life will not be easy and everyone that smiles in your face isn’t your friend. We had to commit 1 Cor. 15:33 to memory- bad association spoils useful habits.
The things she taught us and still teaching us is priceless. It’s hard for me to go throughout the day without reflecting on something my Mom have said or even done.
I catch myself saying or doing the things I remember seeing her do with us now I’m doing it with my kids and grandkids. The love for one another, I’ve passed on to my kids. The respect for others, I’ve passed on to my kids.
The love to cook, well my kids didn’t really catch on to that but they love to cook her cornbread recipe.
Moms are a priceless commodity and it’s so important that we give them their roses while they are alive. #PutYourHeartOnPaper and share with the women in your life how special they are to you.
There are so many Hallmark cards that will be purchased this week. Candy and flowers given but nothing compares to you sharing your intimate feelings about your Mom with your Mom.
My sister and my mom grandkids and I are recording a special message for mom this year. Something similar to what these folks did for their moms—> PutYourHeartToPaper videos.
Happy Mothers Day to you, your mom and the mothers in your life.
In what way will #YouPutYourHeartToPaper for your mom this year?

I also thought my mom was overly strict with my brother and I growing up. Like you, I now realize that she probably protected us from a lot of bad stuff!

This year I will be making a homemade card & have my siblings write personal messages in it to express the love we have for our mom. I know she will love it.

I never really appreciated all that my mom did for me when I was younger, but now as an adult I see all the things she did for us kids. I think think year I will tell her all the things I haven’t about how much I appreciate her still.

I had to grow up to appreciate just how great my mother was. As a kid I just did not understand why she made the choices she did but as an adult I now know that she always put me before herself.

Agree. Do it while you can. Moms are special. Mine was a strong woman as well and I love her for it… though it was hard when I was a teen. However, I’m teaching the same lessons to my boys.

Cornbread reminds me of my grandmother. She is from the south and she used to bake it all the time when I was a kid and she lived with us.
