Oh my, we rode on Amtrak for the very first time this past week. We went to New Orleans for the Essence Festival and since going to the festival was a first for us, we decided we would do all “first” things for this trip. So we decided our mode of transportation would be Amtrak.
We never have rode on Amtrak and we never been to the festival so this was an opportunity for us to bond and experience something new together! I was overly excited about this trip so I booked us our own sleeping car. This would give us quiet time and the opportunity to enjoy the sights while talking and bonding.
Amtrak gave us the ultimate date night/day/weekend.
How Amtrak helped strengthen my marriage
Spending quality time together as a couple is essential but sometimes hard to accomplish in marriage when you are both managing the daily tasks of family, career, school, etc. When we were planning our vacation to New Orleans, we both decided that we didn’t want to drive but we also didn’t want to fly. Driving would tire us out and we wouldn’t get the opportunity to relax and connect the way we wanted to. Flying confined us to quietness or whispering. Flying don’t allow you guys to really “cut loose” and have intimate talks.
Oh but when I researched Amtrak, I was super happy with the options of getting a sleeper car or even sitting in the observatory area of the train. Amtrak offered us the quietness, the relaxation, and the calmness to connect and talk.
I booked us in a sleeper car! Ohhhhh let me just tell you that sleeper car was super cool. It had two chairs that faced each other that let out to a bed. The sleeper car also had a big picture window that allowed for gazing out and enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way.
This was great for us because we love fantasizing and talking about the future. However, seeing some of the sights got us to talking about our childhood and the funny things that we thought certain things were. We talked and talked that we lost track of time. We didn’t want the trip to end……
With our sleeper car accommodations came the opportunity to experience the food that Amtrak serves to its guests. Let me tell you: the food is DELISH! So to have the full Amtrak experience, we ate breakfast in the dining car area. We shared the table with another couple. It was good to meet another couple and talk with them. For lunch/dinner, we had our room steward to bring our food to us so we can enjoy it in our sleeping car.
Again, this gave us an opportunity to just relax and enjoy time with each other.
I am super impressed with Amtrak and hate that we are just using Amtrak as our vacation transportation. Thank you Amtrak for giving couples the means to date each other while traveling.
Have you traveled on Amtrak? Whats your favorite vacation mode of transportation to allow time for you and your spouse to bond?
