February is my birthday month. Normally, we just go out to eat and have cake but this year I wanted to do something different for my birthday. I mean I’m only going to turn 46 once, right! I am a list girl so I have lists for everything including a birthday bucket list.
For some reason, this birthday meant a lot to me. I am so close in leaving my forties that I wanted to make sure that I stop wasting time and live my life in ways that will eliminate the “what ifs” and keep me from having regrets. With so many people, young and old, leaving this earth without having the opportunity to check off those things that they really wanted to do but never had time, I told the hubby we will make time for a couple of things on my bucket list.

- I’m a planner y’all. I am an event planner by trade so I naturally plan everything before I engage in it. I have our family vacations all planned for this year and first part of 2019. Trust me, if we doing it, I’ve already planned it and researched to make sure we know everything we need to do before we get there. So, when I woke up one Saturday and told the husband get up because we are headed out on a quick drive to Louisville to sight see. He was definitely shocked.
We got dressed and hopped into the Mazda 6 and headed up I65. If you know anything about the hubby and I, we really enjoy road trips. It was a cold Saturday morning, so we turned our seat heaters and even put our coats on the backseat on those heated seats to keep our coats warm. We toured the Muhammad Ali Center (more on that later) and ate at Freakin’ Unbelievable Burgers.
We even had some friends to met up with us and enjoy a burger and some laughter while we were in town.
2. Listen, I am afraid of heights. Let me say it again, I am afraid of heights. But I have always wanted conquer a “real” rock climbing wall. The hubby and I have rocked climbed on a Carnival Cruise before but that was nothing compared to what I did recently.
I went to Climb Nashville with the group Outdoor Afro-Nashville to conquer the wall and let me tell you, I conquered it.
I was so proud of myself. I learned that it’s not as easy as it look if you are not use to holding/pulling/carrying your own weight off the ground. It is a very strategic activity. You must think quick and always be aware of your surrounding. I will definitely do it again.
3. I spent a Saturday learning all about camping. I haven’t been camping in over 20 years but I plan to get a camping trip in this year. The great folks at Rei gave a great introduction to camping. I had the opportunity to see, feel, and play with camping gear and also find great places to camp around the Nashville area.
I am so grateful for a hubby that encourages me to try new things and even the activities that scares me the most, he is always right there to hold my hand and support my craziness.
I have no regrets about this birthday celebration. We zipped around town in the Mazda 6. Enjoyed turning the music up as loud as it would go and singing together making our own little harmony.
What’s on your birthday bucket list?
We had the pleasure of driving the Mazda 6 for a week. The comments about the Mazda are all mines and in no way influenced by the brand.
