During a recent trip to Detroit Michigan, I randomly encountered private moments between couples throughout the city. My main agenda was to learn about Detroit and write about my experiences along the way. What I mostly witnessed was private moments between married couples. Today I am going to recap my version of “Detroit in Love” by talking about three locations where love kept company with visiting guest. Each of these experiences revealed a lesson worth incorporating into our own relationships.
My first day in Detroit was spent for the most part at Ford Field. While most people associate football as a man’s sport, mostly supported by men. I was tickled to see the anomaly of so many couples on dates at the Detroit Lions game. I travel to games all around the country and never have I see so many date nights at a football game. It was both interesting and wonderful to see men and women dressed alike in support of their favorite team while holding hands and canoodling. The lesson here was to fuel love through common interest.
Later that night I visited Texas de Brazil to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Upon entering I noticed this dark, but sexy atmosphere that gave off privacy and intimacy while serving delicious food. This is one of those locations you have to visit to get the full picture. With all of the previous mentioned there was also a buffet style bar located in the center of the restaurant. Buffets and dates don’t typically go together but in this rare instance it totally worked. During my visit, Texas de Brazil was filled with couples which also included a table of double daters. I can’t say that I have personally been on a double date, but this was a great example of how it should be done. The lesson here was surrounding yourself with other couples in love.
My final day in Detroit landed on a Monday and included several meetings themed with food. During my breakfast meeting I noticed a couple who appeared as if they had agreed to go in late to work and have a pre-work breakfast date at Hudson Café. Who wouldn’t fall in love over the restaurant’s famous Red Velvet Pancakes? I was there without a date and still managed to fall in love- with myself [hahaha]. The lesson here is clear; pancakes brings out the best in any relationship.
Whether you are seeking activities or moments in food; when it comes to travel and relationships Detroit is sure to accommodate. It was refreshing to be in a city where family and relationships are a priority. It’s not something Detroit is known for but that doesn’t mean it’s not there.
