We recently took a trip to DC for work but you know all work and no dates make a marriage dull and boring.
After I finished working my client event, it was time for me and the mister to take in some sights but not just the usual sights of DC (well maybe one tourist spot).
DC is such a wonderful city to me. It is full of people, attractions and delicious food. The city is ALWAYS busy.
We stayed at The Hilton Garden Inn on 14th Street. It was centrally located not only to my client’s event but everything else we didn’t even know we wanted to do.
The hotel & staff was beautiful and warming. After a long day of flights, it was really refreshing to arrive at HGI. The greeting we received when we entered set the tone for a great experience here.
From the check in desk, to Robert bringing our luggage upstairs, to me calling asking about the best place to eat the customer service was superb.
Oh I don’t have to tell you about the amenities. The room was a typical HGI room. Spacious, clean and ready for you to relax. Our room faced the busy 14th Street but hey HGI isn’t responsible for the noise but our room was still quite quiet.
We appreciated the two bottles of water we received upon check in and the nightly warm cookies.
I worked Thursday night & Friday day, but once the event closed it was time for a DC infused date with the hubby.
When we travel, we do not eat at national chain restaurants. We like to try local favorites and I must say this trip, we tried something that is now my new favorite.
We ate lunch at WTF. Yes, Woodward Takeout Food. It is located on H Street close to the hotel. The place smells amazing. I think they make all their breads and deserts fresh.
The chick chick sandwich was AMAZING. It had cranberry relish on it. Let me tell you, that was the most delicious thing I have ever tasted.
The mister had a sandwich and he ordered a cinnamon roll, homemade with a cream cheese frosting. He ate it so fast, I didn’t get a change to take a picture of it.
We only had one night to really enjoy DC so we only visited one attraction and we knew we were going out. So we had to be selective of where we spent our day hours.
We chose to visit Dr. Martin Luther King memorial. Just to be there and see this statue was overwhelming. We understand the sacrifices he made for us and to be living in 2015 when Black lives are threatened again based on skin color is disheartening.
We truly enjoyed the visit there and walked around and just took in the beauty surrounding the area. DC is really a beautiful city.
We decided to go to The Park on Fourteen for our night out.
The food and service was great. This is a bar/club so they have the typical “club line” to get in. When we arrived there wasn’t a line so we didn’t have a wait. The music wasn’t too loud and it was music that you could dance to. We really had fun here.
The hubby, with his sweet tooth, had to have the bread pudding. I’m not a bread pudding eater but he said it was delicious.
Oh did I mention that you cannot come to the DMV area and not eat seafood!!! We went to Blue Dolphin Seafood Bar & Grill.
It’s not a fancy looking place but the food is so worth the price and drive.
Overall, our #OneCityOneDate was a success.
We took the early flight on Southwest Saturday morning and headed home.
There is nothing like a quick date trip! When was the last time you guys did a quick date trip?
What a wonderful time you both had in DC. Your room looks terrific and all the food look delicious. I hope we get a chance to visit DC, too.
We love DC. We have family down there, so we go down every year.
Who wouldn’t love a quick-weekend date with their spouse! What a beautiful establishment!
That would be so fantastic. I have to say, before this article, I always thought of guys in suits and red ties when I thought of DC.
This sounds like a wonderful trip! The food looks amazing too!
What great concept for a blog. My hubby and I try to go on a date at least twice a month (even if it is at home with a movie and dessert). Looks like you all had a great time and AWESOME food!
I have never had an actual date trip like this with my husband. I would love to do something like this. It looks like you had a wonderful time. That Inn looks very beautiful! The food looks delicious as well.
Welcome to my hometown! I enjoy DC occasionally for a date night, there is a Spanish restaurant in Dupont Circle you should try next time.
We just took a date trip for our anniversary! It’s so important to have that one on one time to connect!
Wow! What a great ‘date’ time you had after your event! The Hilton Garden Inn looks wonderful – and the different foods photos are scrumptious enough to make us want to go there just for that!
I agree that it’s disheartening that we are having issues, still, based on skin color!!
What a great idea to have a date night in a different city. I love the Hilton Garden Inn chain. They offer such great service.
Wow, this looks excellent! Talk about a great date! That food looks just amazing!
Washington is a great place for dates! I haven’t been there since I was a teenager though!
I love the look of the room you stayed in. It’s always a plus when a room has a warm feel to it. Sounds like you and your hubby had a great stay!
This sounded like an amazing date~! I’m going to have to remember those places when we visit next.
That food looks so delicious. I love visiting Washington DC. I haven’t been in a while, but I hope to go soon.
That looks like a great place for a date night! That bread pudding looks so delicious!
Looks like an amazing time. I recently stayed at Hilton. They make a beautiful hotel experience.

This looks like so much fun! I would love to take a quick date trip with my hubby!
I lived in DC for years but never got around to trying those places! Sounds like they were delicious and I was missing out!
I have always loved DC. The Hilton Garden Inn looks like a great place to stay. I will have to check them out the next time i am in the area.
It sounds like you had a great weekend. I would love to go to DC again. The food looks so delicious. I will have to try Woodward Takeout Food.
I would love to go to DC. It would be a great weekend getaway. All this food looks amazing.
What a neat place to stay the night. I’ve only been there once and it was just for the day, but it had a neat vibe about it that I never felt anywhere else. I’d love to go back for a long weekend.
Wow! So many great places to see and amazing food to try. I love the WTF is for lunch. That is hilarious!
I just reviewed a Hilton in Orlando and I loved it. Their have some really amazing hotels.
Your stay at the Hilton in DC w/ your hubby sounds wonderful. We were just at that very same hotel a few weeks ago as one of my kids goes to college there. Your post does an excellent job hightlighting everything great about this particular hotel property from the food to ambiance to accomodations.
We love having those quick overnight date trips. Some of our favorite have been to Nashville, and we have one coming up on our anniversary to the Shaker Village in Kentucky. Looking forward to it!
I have always wanted to visit DC. Maybe one day I will get there.
