By now you know I love to grill. I am a self professed grill master but my love for grilling I inherited from my dad.
All my life, my dad was the one standing at the grill cooking. As a daddy’s girl, I would stand right beside him, looking, asking questions, and turning meat.
Over Fathers Day weekend, I got another chance to cook with my dad. Now, we have different views on the best way to grill but I still learn something from him each and every time.
It’s really not about grilling when I get a chance to stand with him at the grill. It’s more about that Father daughter time. I love just being with him and learning from him.
In all of my years of grilling, my dad still tells me how to grill and what to do and not do when it comes to grilling. I just smile and say “yes sir.”
Dad, is right there are some simple things everyone who stands in front of the grill must remember:
Simple Grilling Tips
1. Prevent sticking. Before you put anything on your grill, rub the grates with an old wash cloth dipped in a small amount of oil. Use your tongs to handle the washcloth so that you don’t risk burning your hand.
2. Sear-in diamond marks. Searing locks in flavor, as well as creates those great grill marks synonymous with summer. Grill your steak for 2-3 minutes on one side, then give it a quarter turn. Flip and repeat.
3. Handle with tongs. Only use tongs to touch your meat. Poking with a fork to rotate or pull it from the grill will let the juices and flavor out.
4. Boldly season. Don’t be shy when seasoning your steak! Go bold, like we do at LongHorn. For an at-home rub, try “The Big 4” – salt, pepper, granulated onion powder and granulated garlic powder.
One of our favorite meats to grill is ribeye steaks. We will grill our steaks, grill corn and enjoy it with a nice cold glass of ice tea. This our special meal we like to eat and grill together.
I hope you and your family enjoy a meal or two on the grill this summer. Try the recipe below. It is delicious!
Smoky Garlic Outlaw Ribeye
Inspired by LongHorn Steakhouse’s Summer Chef’s Showcase menu
A fresh, never frozen signature 18 oz. bone-in ribeye grilled over an open flame and topped with smoky garlic vinaigrette and roasted grape tomatoes

• 1 tablespoon of pepper
• 1 tablespoon of granulated onion powder
• 1 tablespoon of granulated garlic powder
• 1/2 pint of grape tomatoes, halved lengthwise
Directions
• Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
• Toss halved grape tomatoes with olive oil, salt and pepper. Place on cooking sheet with a lip, and place in oven for approx. 20 minutes.
• Clean and spray oil your grill, heat to 550 degrees F.
• Season ribeyes with salt, pepper, onion powder and garlic powder.
• Place seasoned steaks on grill. Grill to your desired degree of doneness (see table below).
• Remove steaks from grill.
• Plate each ribeye and top with 6-8 roasted grape tomatoes and roasted garlic vinaigrette.
• Enjoy!

Great tips! I know NOTHING about grilling, at all! My husband does it all so maybe I can surprise him one day and do it for him 🙂 These are great!

Thank you so much for the safety grilling tips. My grill favors yours a lot. I grilled for my grand daughter and I last night and I tried to be careful with her out there. She’s faster than the speed of light when she wants to get into something. Tha buggar.

I have been scared of the grill ever since I singed my hair on fire many years ago so I let my husband do the grilling! Great tips!

Your dad is a good teacher. I would love to learn to grill, actually. My husband mostly does all the cooking but I’m fascinated by grilling.

Gosh i remember growing up that my dad would cook enough food for 10 armies, as my mom would say. All of it was on the grill. I am not the griller in the household but these recipes sound delish.
