Oh it’s THANKSGIVING TIME! This is the time of year, that we get together more with family and enjoy eating, drinking, and just being thankful for what we have in each other.
As a kid, thanksgiving was easy because it was always at our house. Mom would cook a big meal and everyone would come over early and leave late, but now we are all grown and the thanksgiving meals is a collaborative effort.
Please understand that we are from the South and we believe in having a Soul Food type of dinners. We don’t hold back at all. We will have greens, corn bread dressing, spaghetti, green beans, corn, sweet potatoes (candied yams), baked chicken, ham, coconut cake, caramel cake, sweet potato pies, and of course sweet tea.
This cooking is not for the faint at heart!
With all the cooking we do and all the folks we will feed, we start our planning early and hit up Sam’s Club for bulk purchasing of our food and dinner needs.
Besides cooking, every year, we create a different centerpiece for the table. This year, we are creating a Thankful Tree.
The best thing about this centerpiece, it will be created by everyone. Each family member will have a hand in adding to the thanks that will hang from the tree.
To Create Your Own DIY Thankful Tree
Gathered our own sticks, rocks and acorns from outside
Color ribbon
hot glue sticks
gift tags
Colored plate
Clear Votive Glass
Place the rocks and acorns in the clear glass. Place the sticks into the glass. Making sure the sticks are pushed down through the acorns and rocks. Cut a ribbon to place around the glass. Hot glue the ribbon onto the glass.
Each member is given a gift tag and a pen. They should write what they are thankful for on the gift tag and place it on one of the sticks.
Once everyone has completed their tag, place the thankful tree in the center of the table next to the sugar glazed ham!
Planning a big family gathering doesn’t have to be stressful. It actually should be the most enjoyable time of the year for you. Make a list of the things you need. We normally have 15-20 people for our Thanksgiving dinner that’s why it is a must that we purchase quality meats and vegetables in mega proportion. Yes, we love to eat!
