We are celebrating date night all week in honor of our anniversary in honor of our 17th wedding anniversary. With it being our anniversary week, we have declared August 29-September 4, National Date Night Week. National Date Night Week will give an all important spotlight to date nights and our dating your spouse initiative.
I am super excited about celebrating our wedding anniversary but most importantly it gives me an opportunity to share with you just how dating my spouse has helped my marriage.
I laugh every time I share the story about how Step and I meet and about our first date. See we met on a hot day in June 1997. Actually, it was Friday the 13th. Its a good thing I’m not a superstitious person because normally folks believe only bad things happen on Friday the 13th; oh but my story is way from bad.
I met my husband in a parking lot. He was the security guard and I was trying to park my car and he threatened to tow it. We joked for a little bit and he asked me for my number. Being a new resident of GA, I refused to give him my number but I told him he could give me his number. The rest is in a 17 year history together!
Today, I want to share with you our very first date. Just as strange of our meeting is our first date. Our first date consisted of us driving around 285 in Atlanta. With me being new to Atlanta, I didn’t know the area and he wanted to show me around; however, I was scared because I didn’t know him and I WAS IN A NEW CITY.
So I told him the only way we could go on a date is if I drove and we went in my car. Now, thinking back on that, that really wasn’t a good idea, if I was scared, right?! Anyway, we drove around for hours (in a circle because 285 is nothing be a big circle around the city) talking, laughing and getting to know each other.

In looking back over the years, the date nights that was the most fun was the impromptu ones and the ones that was simple in nature. I really think that date is the reason why we have so much fun in cars.
In honor of National Date Night Week, I invite you to have a car date driving around your city and taking in the sites.
