10 Budget Friendly date night ideas
1. Dance Lessons via YouTube
YouTube is the #2 search engine. If you want to know how to do anything YouTube is the best place to look. So you want to learn the latest line dances check out this. You want to learn how to Tango check out this. You want to learn how to salsa check out this. Learn a new dance step in the comfort of your home. Have fun & don’t step on each others toes!
2. Go Hiking
Put on hiking gear. Wear the right footwear & go to your local park and go for a scavenger hunt. Find a park you haven’t visited but will give you the opportunity to explore the surroundings.
3. Dessert Only Date
Go to your local bakery & share one of those huge cupcakes. Or go to the local grocery store & purchase half of a cake (one of the slices that is just for one) & enjoy eating it together with your favorite beverage.
4. Happy Hour at Home
Enjoy a few cocktail beverages at home. Use whatever beverages you have. Get the wine glasses out & enjoy happy hour just like you would at a bar. Put out a bowl of nuts, turn on the music, and sit and talk!
5. Trilogy Movie Night
Enjoy a trilogy night of movie watching. Watch your favorite movies such as: all of the Bourne movies, Lord of the Rings, Fast and the Furious, or even all of the Die Hard movies. Pop popcorn, get some $1 movie candy from the dollar store, get your favorite beverage & snuggle on the couch watching your favorite movies.
6. Hourly Motel
Sometimes you want to get out the house but don’t really have the money to have a “full vacation” so why not visit an hourly motel or purchase a cheap night at a nice hotel from Groupon, Living Social, or from the Hotels.com website. Enjoy an hour or two (or overnight) away from your normal surroundings. Hey you could even role play…….hmmmm sounds like fun!
7. Game Night
Enjoy game night at home. Have a friendly competition playing cards, board games or even video games. Make it fun but sexy!
8. Date Night Potluck
You know other couples who have children & can’t find a babysitter, have a date night potluck. Each couple brings a dish and you guys enjoy laughing, talking, maybe even play a few games…whatever it is you like to do do it!
9. Home Karaoke
Don’t have a karaoke machine? No problem. Most cable services have the music stations, turn to your favorite genre of music & sing (plus dance maybe) along with the words. See who can sing more songs using the right words (hey I would definitely lose that challenge but I would have fun singing my little heart out) LOL
10. Snowball fight
Some of you have the luxury of snow. Why not take the date outside? Instead of a paintball or water gun fight, have a snowball fight! It would be really fun to add food coloring to your snow so that way you would know who received the most hits……have fun!
See, being on a budget isn’t boring or keep you from having fun. What a budget does is keep your finances aligned with the income and expenses you have. Make some lifestyle changes so that you can incorporate regular date nights into your marriage. It’s important to connect daily, weekly, monthly…basically all the time.
Dating your spouse isn’t about the place, the amount of money you spend or the time of day, it’s about connecting and keeping the love alive. I know you can do it & will do it this year!
I will issue a date night idea/challenge weekly on my Facebook page, so please join us over there so I can help inspire you with ideas of how to date your spouse.

What great ideas. I especially like the Trilogy Movie Night. I haven’t got a chance to do that in years.

I so wish I could have a date night. With 5 kids seems almost impossible. The last date night was 8 years ago! I am going to try to plan one for this year.

Great date night ideas, although the one about getting an “hourly” motel cracked me up. I thought only ladies of the night used this idea. Date night has always been a part of our married life – all 51+ years. We have steak & shrimp (surf n’ turf) at home with wine. It used to included candles, but now we just turn the dimmer switch down (snicker).

We don’t get many date nights unfortunately. A few times we enjoyed ourselves just going to the local home improvement store and discussing “what if” remodeling, which is where you just talk about what you like and would love to have if money were no object. Very relaxing.

Thien-Kim,
It is doable. Plan for it. If you are unable to get out the house, put the kids to bed early & have the date you would have had outside the house in the house.

Val,
My husband and I have done that as well. Good suggestion. Thanks!
