We are getting ready for our family travel this summer! The kids are already counting down to the last day of school. They are looking forward to spending the summer with us.
As many of you know, we are empty nesters. We love to travel. It is easy for us to throw something in the suitcase and hop in the car and hit the road. Oh, but we are grandparents and Godparents NOW. So when we take family trips, we have to keep in mind we have little ones to prepare for and let me tell you ITS NOT AS EASY TO JUST GET UP AND GO!
The one thing we always enjoyed about traveling with our kids were the memories we made along the way so we are definitely looking forward to making memories with our granddaughter & godson. With looking back over the car trips with our kids, we remember the shenanigans that go on in the back seat with the kids. The disputes, the boredom, the messiness and the “ARE WE THERE YET” question. We loved everything about those moments and look forward to making new memories with the grandchildren and godson.
But…….traveling with kids are different now than it was 27 years ago.
We have to keep in mind that we need “extra” stuff when we travel with the kids.
Must Have “Other” Family Travel Essentials
One thing I have learned with traveling with a 12-year-old and a 5-year-old is: they need their electronics. It’s essential on long road trips not only to have games we can play as a family but it’s important that each child has their own electronic device.
Besides electronics, there are some essential items that anyone traveling with kids should have:
1. Kids favorite hand soap/lotion
2. Kids favorite body wash
3. First Aid Kit
4. Peroxide
5. Dish detergent (if staying in a suite that has a kitchen)
6. Tide Pods
7. Cleaning Wipes
8. Air Freshener
9. Medicine

We make sure we bring items that help keep the kids and our space clean + washing our clothes is high on the list.
We use Tide Pods because we are able to get them at our local store, Walmart, and they are small but powerful. Tide Pods are already premeasured and work in all types of washing machines and water temperatures. Being able to have clean kids (and husband) traveling to and from our travel location is always an added benefit.
Packing the “other” essentials helps me manage our time, expenses, and cleanliness and keeps us from visiting WalMart to pick up these essentials. Oh but you must understand that we visit Walmart in every city we visit. Please tell me we are not the only ones? LOL
The next time you pack for your family travel, make sure you pack the other essentials.
What are some must have items you pack when traveling with the family? Share below in the comments.
Caution: Remember to keep all chemical and Tide Pods out of reach of children.

I always bring wipes! My kids aren’t babies any more but baby wipes are the best.

You know, I never thought about how easy it would be to just pack some of those Tide pods with me! I love this idea to keep our clothes and beach towels clean and fresh!

This is a good basic list. We learned the lesson of taking our own soap when our kids were sensitive or allergic to hotel soaps. Especially facial soaps. Not fun when going to a family event.

Youre right traveling with kids now is very different than 27 years ago. Im 32 with 2 kids ages 3 and 5. When my parents would take us out for a road trip we needed food, water, and a hand toy. Now you need all the devices and all the cords and all the cameras and phones etc. LOL
We love Tide Pods, I got one in a new homeowner kit when I bought my first home and it was sooooo good!

Some great travel essentials on this list. I always take some magicool spray to cool down the car if it gets too hot while we’re traveling 🙂

haha I remember my moms biggest concerns with traveling with us was food and what VHS tapes to take for the VCR that we had in the van. (yes, I just dated myself) LOL

Yes, I use to hate thinking about washing while on vacation but it’s so simple that it’s a must for us when traveling with the kids.
