[pullquote]Nothing great happens when you hold back-Cory Brand[/pullquote]
It’s date night but with others as well. We had the opportunity to preview the movie Home Run, which will be in theaters on April 19. We previewed the movie with other couples from our Marriage ministry at church. We were fortunate to be able to host the preview at our salon. We were happy to so of course we had to set it up like date night!
As you guys know, I love movies especially the love tear jerker ones. So when I got the opportunity to preview this movie Home Run. Reading the synopsis of the movie, I was intrigued. The movie is about a baseball player that is fighting his demons ALONE. His past is showing up in his RIGHT NOW. So you know I was all for watching this feel good movie. Well I was hoping it would be a feel good movie LOL
So as I was watching
the movie, I was taking notes to make sure I could write this review. Well, instead of making the review in paragraphs, I thought I would just share with you my notes.
Home Run Nuggets:
* Even as Christians, we face challenges in life and this includes marriage. This movie showed that we all struggle but there is hope and a solution for all struggles.
* When the lead character, had to start focusing on something/someone else besides himself, he was able to really see that he is needed & could do some good.
*Our history and/or upbringing does not define us & don’t have to determine our future. Just because our parents marriage didn’t work out doesn’t mean that our marriage will not work. The lead character had to face that demon because he was trying not to be his alcoholic father and low & behold he was his alcoholic father. One thing for sure and two things for certain, Satan is a lie and a deceiver. He would want us to think that we can not be any better than our parents. Your life is in your hands. Make your own path & allow God to help you reach your BETTER.
*We never know what someone else have gone through. Just looking at a person doesn’t tell you the whole story of who they are.
*We, as adults, must be mindful that our actions toward our children last through out their lives. So give them a great model to mimic.
*One of the great things about this movie is: its a Christian based movie but it did not beat the non-Christians over the head. Yes God is the way but they approached this topic in such a way to meet you where ever you are in your relationship with God.
*Celebrate Recovery: Yes celebrate that you have conquered the demon of your past & your past actions.
I don’t want to give away to much about this movie, but just know we had a lively discussion during and after the movie.
We had a great time with everyone. Movies, food, and good friends make for a great date night. Oh don’t sleep on this movie. Your present and your future will be truly blessed because you will get the confirmation that it is ok to let go of your past. Take a look at the Home Run trailer:

It’s so true that we have no idea what others are going through. Coming from a family that has several recovering addicts, I probably need to check this movie out to get a better sense of what life was like for them.

Thanks for the review Pamela and putting this movie on my radar. I’m going to take a look and see what’s going to be near me. Darren and I don’t see many movies together, but this sounds like one we’ll both appreciate.

Looks like a pretty good movie. I think any story that deals with people overcoming self-destructive behavior and finding out there there are so many ways they can be of service to others besides themselves is a story worth telling. It seems to be the one thing that humans still can’t get over.
Great review. Looking forward to seeing this movie.

I love movies, and this sounds like one I want to see. One of the themes is something I say all the time. We often look at others and develop opinions, but we have no idea what that person has gone through to get where they are.

Our parent’s history definitely doesn’t define us. Too many people look to others for a look into the future for themselves and their marriages. We are all unique so that is definitely not a good idea. 🙂

Thanks for sharing the information about this movie. There are not a lot of Christian movies that I get exposed to each year. I will have to look out for this one.

This looks like what my Daddy would call a “tear jerker” movie. I have a special place in my heart for baseball movies as an analogy for life.
Glad you enjoyed it with your friends!
