I watched the second episode of Couples Therapy last night on VH-1.
It saddens me to watch these couples hurting but its even sadder to know there are thousand more like them.
One thing we can all agree on is ‘Marriage is hard work.’ So are you willing to fight for the marriage you want and deserve?
The most dysfunctional couple on there, in my opinion, is DMX his wife. I hurt for both of them. They love each other so much that they are enabling bad behavior.
We sometimes think we are helping our spouse if we keep quiet and allow them to be ‘Who they are.’ That is not true.
When our spouse is exhibiting destructive behavior we must address it instantly. In addressing sensitive topics you must use tack but firmness.
DMX wife has looked the other way for so long that now she is suffering from his bad behavior. We feel what our spouse feel when we love them unconditionally.
However, we must take back our marriage from these destructive behaviors.
5 Ways To Fight for your Marriage:
1. Seek outside counseling. If your spouse isn’t willing to attend, you attend to get help for enablers.
2. Set boundaries stick with them.
3. Don’t internalize your spouse bad behavior. Understand its not you who is causing them to act out.
4. Find the right time to address your concerns with your spouse but DON’T NAG!
5. Pray for God to step in change your spouse ways. Ask God to give your spouse the will power to want to change.
