Wow, what a month July has turned out to be ALREADY! With so much going on in the world and in our communities it’s important that we stay focused and don’t lose connection to our spouse. Marriage isn’t easy, but the work it takes to keep a marriage intact should be fun work, and not feel like a job you never want to do. That’s why it’s important to find
Marriage is work and a daily struggle to keep everything on an even path and keeping your spouse needs met and keeping them happy. That’s why it’s important that we do our due diligence in marriage to make sure it’s rewarding for the husband and the wife.
Think about how it makes you feel to know that your spouse is feeling appreciated, supported and loved just because you are being YOU and remembering what makes them happy.
So as you navigate day to day activities, I want to admonish you to learn and/or do something new this month as a couple.
1. Make a date night, and stick to it
Be intentional with dating your spouse. Make date nights a priority in your life, in your marriage, and in your schedule. Date night isn’t just for you to escape the kids (well, it’s a plus) but it’s a time for you and your spouse to connect as husband and wife. Remembering the “why” so don’t be haphazard when it comes to planning and keeping date night.
2. Talk more
Much is missed when we don’t give our spouse our undivided attention when they are talking. It’s important to have technology free talk time. Decide on when and where in your house will be technology free and stick with it. Talk to your spouse. Listen to your spouse. Share with your spouse. This can only be effective if you shut down all technology and give them your undivided attention.
3. Make Love More
Hey, there is absolutely nothing wrong with having more sex! So just do it….. Making love to your spouse is more than just having sex it’s more about connecting and feeling that person intimately physically. It’s a way to communicate without words. It’s a way of bonding without glue. It’s a way of growing without getting fat. having regular love session with your spouse allows you both to feel loved and desired.
4. Surprise each other
Don’t wait for a holiday or your spouse’s birthday to surprise them. Simple surprises could be just bringing home flowers, sending lunch to them at work, or even slipping a nice note of appreciation in their bag or purse. Do a simple act of kindness to your spouse. Let them know you appreciate them and haven’t forgotten about their contributions to the family and marriage.
5. Enjoy a new experience together
Wow, just think about the fun and the memories you make when you enjoy new experiences together. Plan something that you guys have talked about doing and just do it! Have fun as a couple.
Listen couples, don’t get caught in the craziness that is happening. Keep some joy and peace in your home. Institute a new habit this month and watch how your marriage and connection with your spouse will thrive.
