Dating your spouse seems like a simple thing to do but for some its hard to even talk about dating with their spouse. The day to day tasks leave you tired, disgusted and broke sometimes but when it comes to dating your spouse you shouldn’t feel that way.
A consistent dating routine will help build a healthy marriage and keep the romance, excitement, and spark in your marriage. Couples get complacent and stop dating because they are waiting on the other one to make the first move or initiate the actual date. Well, STOP IT! If you want to date your spouse, ASK THEM OUT ON A DATE.
You remember when you were dating and how you guys would throw around things to do together or if you wanted to do something you would just tell them about it and invite them to participate. Well, guess what that’s the same thing that must happen even in marriage.
How to ask your spouse out on a date
1. Plan the date: Think about a fun activity/place that you both would enjoy or even trying out for the first time. Get all the particulars about the place/activity to make sure that it is something that you and your spouse would enjoy!
2. Pick a date and time: Choose a date, day, and time that is conducive to you and your spouse schedule. If you are not regular daters, then choose a date and time that would not give your spouse a reason to say no. Don’t choose a time that is during their work hours or even a day that they already have a standing commitment.
3. Be respectful: This goes without saying. Don’t pick an activity or time that you know your spouse wouldn’t be able to commit to you.
4. The ask: Set the stage (meaning the atmosphere). Don’t just bombard your spouse with date night ideas and they are not even prepared to have that conversation. Begin with simple conversation about the last fun thing you guys did or even talk about your favorite date. Share the memories and then say “wouldn’t it be fun if we got out and enjoyed ourselves like we use to?” Be gentle with your spouse. Don’t hem and haw around the situation but don’t beat them over the head with it! But do ask them out on a date!
5. Build excitement: Share little tidbits about the date. Leave little notes or a handwritten card letting your spouse know how excited you are about the quality time you guys are about to have.
6. Prepare: Have everything confirmed for your date. Pick out your spouse clothes for the date. Secure the babysitter, pack whatever you need to make the date a success. Basically, take care of everything so that all your spouse have to do is show up and enjoy you & the date!
Asking your spouse out on a date shouldn’t cause you to have cardiac arrest but should be a fun addition to your conversation.
Plan, Pick, and Prepare then ask your spouse out on a date! Whats the next date you and your spouse will have?
