Its time to start thinking about what you guys are going to do this weekend for date night. I just wanted to share one of the things we tried & actually had fun doing it.
This date night activity was so out of the box for us and it helped us in communicating effectively to each other. Our date night activity last week was: (drum roll please) we cooked a meal together! Yes, we successfully prepared a romantic dinner (it was to us at least) together and enjoyed every bit of it.
Wait, let me set the scenario for you….
First, we decided on the type of food we would serve, i.e. chicken, rice, bread etc. We searched the internet for a meal that we both would love to try. After finally agreeing (after hundreds of recipes) on the meal we would like to cook & have fun cooking it, we uploaded the recipe to this recipe organizer I have, Cook’n Recipe Organizer.
Let me tell ya, this organizer was a sane keeper LOL. I am really bad about bookmarking things and not really having my bookmarks organized. So to keep from making our date night stressful I thought maybe I should use the organizer that I had downloaded months (months) ago.
The good thing is we were able to both keep up with the recipe and divide the shopping list in half. Yep part of our date night was to go shopping and get the items we needed for date night; however, the twist was we shopped alone with our own list of items needed. Ladies, let me tell you..this was the funniest thing because my husband does not grocery shop (LOL). He was having a time in the store. Hey, but that lead to great laughs and conversation at the dinner table.
Wait, I digress, back to the date night idea. So we decide on a menu, we go grocery shopping, now its time to decide on the libations we will have. I’m a wine person and he is a dark liquor type of guy. So we compromised. He had his dark liquor and I had my wine but we drunk out of martini glasses. Hey we thought it was cute!
The night of the date, we got all dressed in our cooking attire with aprons and chefs. It was really cute and fun to get into the role of cooking. We even took turns acting like Chef Emeril in the kitchen (BAM!)
The good thing is when we got to playing and carrying on in the kitchen; we had the recipe up on the computer on the Cook’n Organizer. Due to all the extra activities and shenanigans we had going on in that kitchen, we did not eat until about 11pm (started at 7pm).
I tell ya, if you and your husband have not cooked a meal together, you definitely should. It was fun! There was no right or wrong way to sift the flour, to coat the chicken. Everything we did was right because we were together.
If you have no idea of what would be easy or best for you and your spouse to cook on your Cooking date night, I recommend trying Cook’n Recipe Organizer. I liked the concept so well, that I contacted the makers of this product and asked them if they wouldn’t mind donating one for my readers to win. So guess what your next cooking date night is on me!
You know I am such an advocate for date night and any date we can have laughing, talking, touching, and being silly with our spouse is alright with me. I say just get in that kitchen & burn (in a good way, LOL)

Me and my husband favorite recipe to cook is any down home Southern recipe…like fried chicken, baked mac & cheese, rams, etc. the smells and recipes bring back memories from our childhood and makes for good conversation while we’re cooking it up in the kitchen 🙂

My hubby and I enjoy cooking together, but more often than not, the kids do the cooking now. We will often have a big prep day, though, where we prep a bunch of food to make sure there are “easy fix” from scratch meals ready throughout the week when we’re busy. We tend to work together well, and its pretty much always fun. We both have our things that we’re uptight about, but we’re not uptight about the same things, so there is little conflict, thank goodness!!

My husband and I LOVE cooking together! I admit though, if the kids aren’t home we usually don’t cook just for ourselves. If I could pick a meal, it would be the first meal he ever cooked for me (back when we were still dating) Rib-eyes with baked potato and a Caprese Salad 🙂
