The Best Man Holiday movie is hitting theaters Friday, November 15. We had the pleasure of previewing the movie on Tuesday. Let me first say this is a must see movie & make a great date night movie.
The Best Man Holiday
After 15 years, friends reunite over the Christmas holiday. Mia, played by Monica Calhoun, requested the appearance of her long time friends to come and celebrate the holidays together. Her initial thought for getting them together is to get her friends all in one place like they did before. What she didn’t realize that the past and the rivalries from the past quickly made an appearance to the festivities when the friends merged together.
Malcolm Lee, the director, does a really good job of making sure that the storyline from the original Best Man (1999) movie carries over into the sequel. The movie opens with giving the audience an history lesson and updating everyone about the characters. However, the sequel, unlike its predecessor, takes on a more serious topic but still have a comedic undertone.
The storyline picks up 15 years later.
The characters:
Lance (Morris Chestnut) and Mia are still married with 4 children and Lance is a high profile football player.
Shelby (Melissa De Sousa) is a divorce Real Houswife of Westchester with one daughter.
Harper (Taye Diggs) and Robyn (Sanaa Lathan) are married. Harper is a writer and Robyn is a busy pregnant executive.
Quentin (Terrence Howard) is a PR professional with his own pr firm.
Julian (Harold Perrineau) and Candance (Regina Hall) are married with a successful school.
Jordan (Nia Long) is a successful executive.
Each character has their own sets of personal and professional issues. As in typical fashion, each one tries to hide their personal issues from their friends; however, over the weekend plus a few drinks, all things come to a head.
The Plot:
The plot of the story is: friends, forgiveness, and faith. Best Man Holiday has a religious undertone wrapped up in friends, laughter, and forgiveness.
FRIENDS * FORGIVENESS* FAITH
Best Man Holiday should have friends, forgiveness, and faith as its tag line.
As not to spoil the movie for you, I will tell you that each character is tested on loyalty, forgiveness, and faith. How do they react to new information that can destroy the friendship circle they have had for 15 years is tested.
Lee touches on topics that the normal everyday person faces. Lee tugs on the hearts of the audience from sickness, lost of jobs, sex, to dealing with exes. What the preview doesn’t tell you is to bring plenty of tissue.
The fun parts of the movie:
This movie has many comedic parts so get ready to laugh and really enjoy yourself. I really enjoyed the choreographed dance routine to New Edition‘s 1988 single “Can You Stand the Rain” including dressed in full New Edition costume. The movie is not missing no opportunities to pull out the sexiness of the characters.
The overall movie is fun and entertaining.
This movie is definitely worth you going to see. I think you will have outside dialogue about the story lines that are touched on in the movie.
Get a babysitter (check out Care.com), grab your spouse & enjoy a wonderful movie. While there share a bucket of popcorn! Enjoy the movie…enjoy a date with your spouse…just ENJOY!
